Index of Corrected Surnames updated
24th February 2014
The Index of Corrected Surnames, which helps to find incorrectly recorded or incorrectly transcribed relatives on the census was updated earlier today.
There are now 33,823 entries in the index across all of the censuses we cover, but mainly from the 1881 Census.
The index is compiled using the Corrected surname information entered by members when creating or editing entries on their My Ancestors page. Completing this optional field improves the chance of your cousins finding the census entries you've made, and thereby linking with you.
Tip: only ever enter a single surname in the Corrected Surnames field, otherwise your entry will never be found.
